About
Nathaniel Burns

Nathaniel J. Burns is Scarlet Rescue's second hairiest animal (after his canine companion Piff). He uses brushes, sticks, maracas, and more on synthetic skins, contributes lyrically, vocally, melodically, energetically, and yearns to hold a soy candle to Jord Samolesky.

He founded Aside of Mind Studios where Scarlet Rescue rehearses regularly, as well as Peanut Butter and Jam, an invite only, thematic jam session, and has sung and played myriad instruments with Bitter Nasty, Aside of Mind, When Speaking of Demons, and Happy (AKA Teen Idol Players) and others.

Originally from San Diego, California, Nathaniel moved to Phoenix where he sought to do more writing and start his own all-vegan food truck, Sydney's Oatmeal, which later became Aside of Heart 24 Hour Cafe, later forming a business partnership with Virginia Senior of Urban Beans, which they together transitioned into a 24 hour all vegan restaurant.

Nathaniel is the Founder and Producing Artistic Director for Aside Theatre and PHX Art Spaces, [(t)he(y)] are/is a director for film and theater, an actor, artist, producer, educator, real estate developer, and athlete. More at nathanieljburns.com

About
Stephen Davis

Stephen P. Davis is Scarlet Rescue’s keyboardist and Artistic Edge as well as a writer, designer, social science researcher, builder of the “Great Wall of Cathay” (a micro-sanctuary for FELV-positive kitties, featuring

top-of-the-wall “kitty tubes” and towers and other notes of cat heaven), and an outside-the-box academic who got tired of hearing fellow academics wish for “revolution” when they could JOIN THE VEGAN REVOLUTION every day, every darned time they raise a fork.

Stephen is also a geographer (MA), anthropologist (MA and PhD), former encyclopedia editor (EB), former English teacher (ESL & EFL), former Spanish teacher (“AEIOU”), former farm boy (Shout out to IL !), former Teamster (AFL-CIO), former actor and football player (yes, at the same time), always a Latin Americanist, once and future poet, and college professor who gets folks to enjoy anthropology and history via courses on coffee, beer(!), power/leadership, and film.

(Oh, and he also designs T-shirts: tell your mom the PG-13 version of “STFU” means “Shut the Face Up,” !ay carajo!)
